Keep these tips in mind throughout the season; they can provide a great start to keeping your skin healthy and younger looking, and, in the process, help you to have a more enjoyable summer.
Sunscreen – Using the right sunscreen is important. SPF factor 15 filters out 93% of all incoming UV-B rays, while SPF 30 blocks out 97% and SPF 50 blocks out 98% of the UV-B rays. Try to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 and look for one that is labeled Broad Spectrum to block out the UV-A rays. Follow directions and reapply often, especially when in and out of the water.
Hydration – Drinking water and hydrating your body is really necessary, as this reduces damage to your skin. Staying hydrated will help keep your skin firmer, smoother and more radiant.
Cover up – In addition to using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing can add additional support to protecting your skin. There are many long-sleeve shirts that provide SPF protection, as well as hats with brims to shield your face and back flaps to protect your neck. Gloves and face shields are available.
Protect your eyes – Invest in a good pair of sunglasses that protect from 99 – 100% of UVB & UVA light. Protect your eyes. You only get one pair!
Lips – Let’s not forget about them because they can get sunburned, too! Find a lip balm that contains SPF and apply often.
Moisturize – After your day in the sun, now you want to moisturize your skin. You want to look for a moisturizer that helps replenish your skin’s natural moisturizing factor and supports a normal, healthy skin barrier to help reduce water loss from your skin.
Antioxidants – We think of topically applying products to protect our skin, but we can also support our skin by what we put in to our bodies. Eating foods and taking supplements rich in antioxidants can add great protection from the sun’s damaging rays.
Enjoy your summer activities…
